Secrets & Lies part 9

The next few weeks were crazy for all of them.  Brian was working on music for the Backstreet Boys new CD.  Kate was wrapping things up at her nursing job and looking for someone to work with her in her event planning company. Donnie was rehearsing for the tour with his band.  Kate and Donnie spoke on the phone nearly every day.  Kate hadn’t heard from Brian since the day he walked out of her house.  She was thankful to be so busy.  The only way she could fall asleep at night was to talk to Donnie until she was all but asleep.  Otherwise, she would lay there and wonder about Brian, or fantasize about Donnie.

Honestly, she cared a great deal about Brian.  He had been part of her life for so long it was impossible not to care about him.  What they had was great, but the feelings she was developing for Donnie were changing her.  Changing her back to the person she used to be before Brian came in her life.  They were subtle small changes, but she noticed them.  She didn’t have to hide who she was before she met Brian.  That was why she had chosen the Public Garden for Donnie’s date that she planned.  It was one of her favorite places and a picnic in the open where everyone could see you and who you were with was just perfect. No hiding. No secrets. No lies.

When Donnie had asked her again about why she had chosen the Garden on the phone the night before, she wasn’t sure if she should tell him.  She promised him that she would tell him the next time they were together.  It wasn’t really a phone conversation to her.  They talked about all kinds of things on the phone though.  He told her about his boys and how much he missed them. She talked about having not had time to even see her parents in over 3 years.  They talked about Dorchester and how the youth had really benefited from the changes that had happened over the past year. She told him how the number of teen pregnancies was down by 30% from the previous year at the clinic.  They had made it easier for teens to get birth control, but were also promoting abstinence as an option.  Even the unplanned pregnancies for older women were down. Kate explained that when women got older, they are more at risk from complications from birth control pills.  That was why older women that wanted to prevent pregnancy were encouraged to make sure their partner always wore a condom or they were offered IUD placement.  When he said something about an IUD sounding like it would be uncomfortable, her response that hers wasn’t even something she noticed caught him off guard. If she hadn’t been involved with anyone in a while, why did she have an IUD?  But he didn’t pursue the thought.  He kept with their discussion about overall women’s health for a few minutes before bringing things back to more personal issues. He really wanted to see her again.

The way things worked out, the next time they were together was for Donnie’s birthday party.  He had picked her up that morning and they made the drive to Connecticut in his car. When she opened the door and was wearing a pink strapless dress, he really wanted to forget that there even was a party and just take her to her bedroom and make some of her very vivid dreams come true.  She was very open about what was going on in her day to day life, but she never talked in detail about her past.  He waited just inside her door while she grabbed her purse & he picked up her overnight bag that was sitting next to the door.  When she walked back up to him and said she was ready, he started to open the door, but then decided that he really wanted to kiss her before they got in the car.  She was slightly shocked at first when he pulled her into his arms and started kissing her.  That only lasted a couple of seconds before she was as committed to the kiss as Donnie.  This kiss was different.  It held the promise of much more.  Kate hadn’t had sex in so long, and she wanted Donnie so much.  She had backed him against the door and unbuckled his belt without him even realizing it.  His hands had moved from her back down to her ass and he was pulling her against his very noticeable erection.  She broke their kiss to move her lips down to his neck.  She loved the way he was breathing.  The sounds he was making were totally in line with every fantasy she had ever had about him.  She slipped her fingers just inside the waistband of his jeans.  Realizing he wasn’t wearing underwear only made her hotter.  She moved her fingers around to unfasten his jeans and had just gotten them unbuttoned when he grabbed her hands and stopped her.  But he kept on kissing her, and damn could the man kiss.  He knew exactly what he was doing to her.  When he finally slowed the kiss and ended it, she felt lost. She was so unfamiliar with just kissing.

“Why did you stop me?” she asked while still trying to catch her breath. “Do you not want Birthday Sex?”

He pulled her hands on up to his chests and held them there with his hands.  “No Kate.  I don’t want to have sex with you…”  He wasn’t finished saying what he wanted to say, but she pulled away immediately with her feelings hurt.

She wasn’t sure what to think.  He acted like he wanted her, but he said he didn’t.  She was so confused.  She felt him walk up behind her and put his arms around her and rest his head on her left shoulder.  She couldn’t not lean back into him.  He smelled wonderful and he felt so nice.  “Kate, you didn’t let me finish.  I don’t want to have sex with you.  I want to make love to you.  I love you Kate.” She turned around and stared at him in shock.  “I’d like nothing better than to pull that dress off of you and carry you to your bedroom and make love to you.  But making love to you for the first time isn’t going to be something that I do in fifteen minutes before we have to leave to go out of town.” He stepped closer to her and  kissed her.  “Making love to you for the first time is going to be something that will last all night and all day.” Another kiss.  “I intend to make every fantasy you’ve ever had come true and hopefully inspire a few new ones.” More kisses.  Then she pulled away again.

“Did you just say that you love me?”

“Yes,” he said and started kissing her again. “I,” kiss “love” kiss “you.” More kissing.  After a few minutes, he stopped again.  She had a look on her face that he had never seen.  “What are you thinking about Kate?”

She shook her head as if to clear her thoughts.  “No one has ever loved me.  Not like this.  Not that they told me about anyway.”  She started smiling then.

“What’s the smile for?”

She looked him in the eyes.  “I just realized that I’ve never been in love with anyone before either.”

“Say it,” he whispered.

She looked in his eyes.  “I love you Donnie.”

“I love you too Kate.  This is already the best birthday ever.”  He picked her up and spun her around before putting her back down with another devastating kiss.  Her cell phone rang and Donnie broke their kiss so she could answer the phone.  It was something to do with his party and he suddenly realized that  they were running half an hour late now.  He grabbed her bag and pointed at the door and smiled.  She headed out to his car while finishing her phone call. He helped her in the car and shut the door.  He paused for a moment just to smile.  This might not just be the best birthday ever.  It might be the best day ever.
