Kate was still sound asleep when Donnie woke up the next day. He couldn’t help but smile when thinking about the woman laying in his arms. She was absolutely amazing. She loved him. She didn’t give a shit who he was. She just loved him. She didn’t expect anything from him. He frowned when he thought about why she didn’t have expectations of more from him. He wondered just how naive Kate was when she met this creep who took advantage of her for so long. She was pretty naive now, in her own way. She wasn’t innocent by any means. That thought made him grin and remember the things they had done earlier. He knew he wanted to be the only man in Kate’s life. He just wasn’t sure that she was ready for what he wanted from her.
Kate stirred in Donnie’s arms and murmured his name. He couldn’t believe he had fallen in love already. Part of him completely trusted this woman who held his heart in her hands. Part of him wondered if she really understood how important this kind of relationship was to him. He wanted to find a way to be sure that the man she had been with before was never going to be back in her life. That meant asking her about their relationship for lack of a better word. He couldn’t handle losing someone else like he had his wife. Fidelity and trust were crucial to him.
Kate stirred again and actually opened her eyes. She smiled when she saw Donnie looking at her. He was easily the most beautiful man she had ever seen. Sex with…. correction, making love with him had been the most fulfilling experience of her life. She couldn’t wait to do it again. She slid her hand from Donnie’s chest down to his groin and grinned at him when she felt how hard he already was just laying there waiting on her to wake up. He let her use her very skilled hands to release some of his tension before he pinned her down and drove his still very hard shaft into her. Looking into his eyes and feeling the way he made her feel … he was so unbelievably good…it wasn’t like it was their first night together. It was like he already knew everything she liked and was reading her mind while he made love to her.
They ended up spending an extra day in the casino, but never left the room. Donnie was determined to make himself unforgettable. What he found was that there was no way he would ever forget Kate. He never really bought into the whole idea of soul-mates before, but he was starting to believe.
Within a few months Kate and Donnie were very publicly in love. If she wasn’t working at her event planning business “All in the Details”, and if Donnie wasn’t performing or filming a movie, they were together. Kate had even moved in with Donnie. Their life was damn near perfect.
He even made a big show of taking her back to the Public Garden to propose to her. He had everything set up the same way she had arranged it for him and his mystery date. Of course, Kate said yes. Everything was perfect. Right up until they went to get in the car to go home and Donnie’s cell phone rang.
“Hello,” she heard him say. She was still kissing his neck while he was on the phone just to try to bug him. “I’m guessing since you are interrupting me tonight that you have good news?” he asked. He paused for a minute. “So they are going to do one show & if it goes well, we’ll all go on tour?” Another pause. “This is gonna be fantastic! Thanks for letting me know.” He hung up the phone and hugged Kate tightly. “Good news! We were wanting to get with another band to do a double headlining thing and it looks like it’s going to happen.”
“Who’s going on tour with you guys?”
“You are going to be so excited. Backstreet Boys.” He saw the look on her face. “I thought you really liked them? You have all their CD’s, even the imports.”
Kate took a few breaths to steady her nerves. “Can we just celebrate our engagement tonight? Tonight needs to be just about us.” She kissed him and any thought he had about pursuing her change in mood was pushed away by his need for her. Soon, even Kate forgot why she was upset. Their engagement was kept somewhat quiet, but it wasn’t a secret.
A month or so later, Donnie brought home a DVD for Kate. She was in the shower when he got home and he put the DVD in the DVD player and waited for her to finish up so she could come watch. She joined him on the sofa and was puzzled. He pressed play and she was scared to look at the screen when she heard Brian’s voice talking. It had been almost a year since she had heard his voice. When Donnie encouraged her to watch, she reluctantly looked away from Donnie’s face and over at the television. Joey from New Kids on the Block and Brian from the Backstreet Boys were being interviewed. Kate swallowed and tried to maintain her composure. When they were done with the interview, the screen cut to the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block performing “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” on iHeartRadio. Kate hadn’t seen Brian perform in close to ten years. She had been forbidden to go to Backstreet Boys concerts. She had all their CDs, but Brian had told her to not watch any videos or see any of their shows. He was so beautiful. She was thrilled that she found Donnie even more attractive than she did Brian. And then Brian did some sort of dance move in front of the camera and she saw it. He wasn’t wearing his wedding band. Kate always thought that Leighanne had picked that huge obnoxious ring for Brian because it was easily visible from far away. Kate forgot to breathe for a moment. When she heard Donnie singing along with the tv, it brought her back to reality. Back to Donnie.
When the song was over, Donnie talked about how much fun they had performing and even rehearsing the song. She had to admit that she liked the song. A lot. Donnie was so excited about recording the song and going on a tour with the Backstreet Boys. Kate was figuring that she could keep busy with work while touring was going on and not really have to go more than a few concerts and she could just not do the whole backstage thing. She could be just a fan in the crowd and meet Donnie afterwards at his bus or hotel room. Her mind was off to the races planning how to avoid interacting with Brian. When Donnie said he wanted to play the DVD again, she was mentally caught off guard.
“No, don’t play it again!” she yelled and grabbed the remote control. She realized her mistake, but it was too late to take it back.
Donnie looked at her. “What is it Babe?” He was genuinely concerned. She didn’t say anything. She finally looked up and met his eyes and he knew. “It was one of them,” he said flatly. Kate nodded her head almost imperceptibly.
She looked down. “I really wanted to forget that part of my life. Or at least pretend it never happened.”
“Kate, look at me.” He waited for her to meet his eyes again. “You are not that person any more. You’re with me. It’s going to be okay. We’ll get through this.” He pulled her up against his chest for a hug.
“Donnie, you’ve always been a little on the jealous side. How are you going to deal with performing side by side with him and knowing he and I have been together?”
“You were together. Past tense. He walked away. You don’t want him back. I know that. He hasn’t contacted you since he left, so he must not want you back either. I’ve got to trust that.”
“There’s a slight problem with your plan. No, I don’t want him back. I have the most wonderful man in the world right in front of me. But remember when I got a new phone about a month after we started dating? I also got a new number.”
“Yeah, you wanted to go ahead and get something with a local area code,” he remembered.
“I lost all my contacts and reentered the people I wanted. I didn’t put him in my new phone. With the new number, he couldn’t have contacted me. I had my email program set up to block any emails from him. I don’t know if I ever got any of them. I also moved in with you. He wouldn’t have been able to physically find me.”
“The next time he sees you, you’ll be being introduced to him as my fiance. Surely he can respect that and realize it’s truly over?” Donnie was running his fingers through Kate’s hair trying to seem relaxed, but he was mentally trying to figure out which one of the Backstreet Boys had an affair with Kate for years. He narrowed it down to Howie or Brian because they were the only one’s still in the group that were married with a son. Howie didn’t really add up because his son was so young, but Brian just didn’t add up either.
“He always was a perfect gentleman in front of anyone else the few times we were together around other people. It was when he was alone with me that we couldn’t keep our hands off of each other. We just couldn’t stay away from each other.”
Donnie knew he had to ask her something he wasn’t sure he wanted to know the answer to. “So now that you’re with me, do you think that you will still want to be with him if you had the chance?”
“Honestly? No I don’t. I can’t imagine doing anything like that with someone who I don’t love. You showed me how wonderful love and making love are when it’s with the right person.”
“Do you think he still wants you?” He held his breath.
“He used to say that he’d want me until his heart stopped beating.” Kate thought it over and didn’t realize that Donnie was totally freaking out inside. “He loved L…his wife. He said I was willing to do things she would never let him do in bed.”
“Well, you are pretty open about your wants and needs in bed and you are receptive to trying new things… Holy shit, I’m agreeing with him.” Donnie couldn’t believe he was saying what he was saying.
“Fact is that everything I knew about how to please you when we first started dating, I learned from him. As much as I hate to say it, he really was a great teacher…for such an unusual subject.”
Donnie looked at her. She was pretty fucking amazing in bed. She was the only woman he had ever met that could satisfy his unusual sexual appetite. She had never once told him no or hesitated when he wanted to do something new with her. She trusted him as a lover implicitly. She also had more stamina than other women he had been with. He tried to not frown when he realized that must be from her relationship with the stupid backstreet boy.
“Well, maybe one day, when this tour is over and we are all back to our normal lives, we can all be friends and I can just call him up and say thanks for teaching Kate how to blow my mind all night every night….” he teased and looked at her.
“Somehow, I can see the two of you being friends actually. But I doubt you’ll ever thank him for teaching me anything.” She laughed.
“Speaking of teaching….I got something new the other day that I wanted to try with you, if you are up for it.”
“Does it involve the possibility of an orgasm?” she asked softly.
“Yes Ma’am,” he answered.
“I’m all yours then, Sir.” She held out her hand to him and he led her down the hall to their bedroom.
Hours later, Kate was asleep in his arms. Donnie lay awake. He was convinced that Brian was the guilty Backstreet Boy. The son of a bitch was the one he liked the best too. He and Brian had just completely hit it off from the moment they shook hands. Brian seemed like such a great guy. Kate didn’t know that Brian had just gone through a very ugly divorce. There were rumors of adultery on his part, but no proof was ever found. He knew without a doubt that Brian would come after Kate as soon as he saw her. Before he knew what he was doing, he had flipped Kate back over onto her back on the bed and woke her up pumping in and out of her. She was his. He would take her to the edge of orgasm and then change-up his rhythm to keep her from going over the edge…repeatedly. His anger towards Brian gave him extra energy.
“Donnie, please let me come. Please,” she begged.
He realized he was being unfair to her when he heard her voice. He pulled her legs around his waist and pounded into her until they both screamed their release together. He was finally too exhausted to think anymore and fell asleep lying on top of Kate.
