Dinner at the Blue Lounge was a continuation of all their other conversations. Chris got there before she did & enjoyed the view for a few minutes while waiting on her. She had sent a text letting him know she was running a bit behind so that he would know she wasn’t standing him up. He couldn’t help but stare at her when she walked in. She looked utterly relaxed and at the same time like the most confident woman he had ever met. And she looked beautiful. She had traded her work attire for a casual sundress and low-heeled sandals.
When she joined him at the bar, he was almost speechless for a moment. Finally, he found his voice. “Pretzel?” he asked, indicating the bowl on the bar in front of them. She laughed out loud and took one.
They spent most of the evening talking and laughing. The food was amazing. The staff seemed to know Olivia and paid enough attention to them that they never actually had to stop and ask for anything. Eventually, the conversation evolved to what was going on between the two of them.
“So what exactly is this?” she asked.
“This? I think it was a great dinner with great company,” Chris answered.
“This wasn’t a date though, right?”
“Definitely not. We should probably establish tonight that the two of us dating is not gonna happen,” he said smiling.
“That’s such a relief. I’ve had the best time I’ve had in forever. At least since the night I met you and we did shots and bitched about dating.” She returned his smile.
They sat there in silence for a few minutes just sipping on their drinks and staring at each other.
Finally, Chris spoke up. “I think we should keep not dating as much as possible. I really like not dating you.”
“I think I like not dating you too.”
